After Pre-Clinical and Clinical Medical training at St. Thomas’ Hospital, London, I continued my training and worked as a fulltime partner in General Practice in the South-West of England.
I have a significant history of trauma, and am thankful to have benefited from body and talking therapies from extraordinary therapists who have walked alongside and supported me in my long journey of healing. Learning about Polyvagal theory and having Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) were transformative experiences for me.
I now feel privileged to have the opportunity to use all I have learned from these many and varied experiences to support others.
I have a special interest in neuroscience relating to social and emotional well-being. I enjoy integrating this knowledge with my medical experience to deliver SSP in a way that is tailored specifically for each client.
Drawing on the considerable challenges I have faced in my own life, I have developed the ‘Sensitive Approach: the Client at the Core’ which aims to provide sensitive and intuitive support tailored for each individual so they can benefit from the best possible outcomes.
I live near the coast in the south west of England, and a significant part of my own self-care involves walking on the beaches and cliff tops with my dog, Tilly.
My journey with the Polyvagal theory and SSP
In 2016 I first read about the work of Dr Stephen Porges, a leading neuroscientist in the USA. Porges' Polyvagal theory deeply resonated with me as it described how we react to our different environments with social engagement, fight, flight or shutdown responses. It was a relief to finally start to make sense of the wide-reaching effects that trauma can have on our brains and bodies that I have experienced personally and also witnessed in many others. In 2017 I attended a Masterclass by Dr Porges in London. I was excited to hear him talk about the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) intervention he had created and that was soon to be released commercially.
In 2018 I completed the SSP training programme delivered by iLs. I started to deliver SSP to clients as one of its first SSP providers in the UK.
In April 2019 I had the privilege to join fellow SSP providers from around the world at the first SSP Gathering in Florida, USA.
In the summer of 2019 I was asked by Dr Porges to provide new training material (manual and video) for SSP providers, based on my experience of delivering SSP and my understanding of the supporting neuroscience From 2020 I have continued to contribute to ongoing developments to support effective delivery of SSP around the world. This includes a remote delivery training webinar and guidelines for Unyte-iLs with regular Q&A sessions and offering professional guidance and SSP delivery in my private practice.
In September 2021 I was a guest on SSP Podcast in Australia.
In November 2021 my pioneering SSP work with a client with Parkinson’s disease was presented as a video at the first online PVI Summit.
